Sid Luckman’s Saturday Morning Links

(Insert name) is the best Bears quarterback since Sid Luckman

Good Saturday morning readers! Today we celebrate former Chicago Bears quarterback Sid Luckman’s 93rd birthday.  Although Luckman is not one of the faces on the Mount Rushmore of passers, you probably know him from the 12,000 references to his 1940s legacy during every nationally televised Bears game.  Hopefully Jay Cutler can shut people up regarding today’s birthday boy.  On to the links-

1) Joe the Plumber, the election celebrity whose name is not Joe and is not a plumber, yesterday commented that Sarah Palin should not run for President.  BAM! Roasted.

2) The Ku Klux Klan is scheduled to hold a rally before the Ole Miss football game this afternoon to protest the school’s elimination of “From Dixie with Love” from the marching band repertoire.  I guess racism dies hard.

3) The Chicago Cubs and Toronto Blue Jays are in talks that would send Jays ace Roy Halladay to the North Side.  I don’t care what they demand, let’s get this deal done.

4) Another trade scenario on the table for the Cubs would send disgruntled moron outfielder Milton Bradley to the Texas Rangers in a three team deal to  send New York Mets second baseman Luis Castillo to Chicago.  This scenario makes the Halladay deal more likely.

5) Kentucky football offensive superstar Randall Cobb is listed as questionable for tonight’s game against Georgia.  Something that is not questionable- his awesomeness.

6) French handball expert striker Thierry Henry told reporters yesterday that the fairest solution to the World Cup qualifier debacle is a full replay.  FIFA would be stupid not to get this done.

7) After Formula One driver Jenson Button’s shocking departure from Mercedes F1, rumors swirled that seven time World Champion Michael Schumacher would come out of retirement to race for his former advisor.  This would be a dream come true for the sport.

If you are bored, enjoy these college football games (Central time):

11:00- (10) Ohio State at Michigan (ABC).  The only decent early game

2:30- (8) Louisiana State at Mississippi (CBS). LSU’s BCS chances on the line

6:45- Kentucky at Georgia (ESPN2). Seriously, this is a boring Saturday

Now for your moment of zen (from 25 years ago today):

Have a good Saturday everyone!
